Honours in Italian
Honours entry
The prerequisites for entry to fourth year Honours in Italian are:
- completion of all the requirements for the BA
- completion of a major in Italian which must include 116-418 To Hell with Dante in third year (In exceptional circumstances 116-418 To Hell with Dante may be undertaken as a Fourth Year subject)
- An average grade of H2B or higher over the 2nd/3rd year subjects within the major.
Honours requirements 2007
Pure Honours
Students undertaking pure honours in Italian must complete:
- 1 Compulsory subject (12.5%)
- 116-410 Italian Honours Language Seminar 1(12.5 points)
- 4 single-semester Italian Honours electives (50%)
- Semester 1 2006
- 116-468 Italy in Close Up(12.5 points)
- Semester 2 2006
- 116-419 Dante 2(12.5 points)
- 116-467 Modern Italian Theatre (12.5 points)
- Semester 1 2006
- A Thesis of 12,000 words (37.5 %)
- 116-507 Italian Thesis (37.5 points)
Combined Honours
Students undertaking combined Honours in Italian and another area of study must complete:
Option 1
- 1 Compulsory subject (12.5%)
- 116-410 Italian Honours Language Seminar 1(12.5 points)
- 1 single-semester Italian Honours elective (12.5%)
- Semester 1 2006
- 116-468 Italy in Close Up(12.5 points)
- Semester 2 2006
- 116-419 Dante 2(12.5 points)
- 116-467 Modern Italian Theatre (12.5 points)
- Semester 1 2006
- 3 single-semester Honours electives (37.5%)
in the combined area of study (37.5 points) - A Thesis of 12,000 words (37.5 %)
- 116-507 Italian Thesis (37.5 points)
Option 2

Interdepartmental Programs
In exceptional circumstances, third and fourth year students may substitute one interdepartmental subject for a subject offered within the Italian Studies Section. Alternatively, students may enquire as to the availability of Italian-related subjects in other Schools. See the Univeristy Handbook for details of such courses. Prior approval must be obtained from the relevant department and from the Convenor of the Italian Studies Section.
